“Patience is bitter, but its fruit is sweet.” - Aristotle
After making my previous black and gray soap, I put soap making in the back of my mind, bummed at the outcomes of the last batch. Soap making is a hobby that I can either get "really right" or disastrously wrong. It is an art fueled with passion for me but I've never taken any formal classes.
Today I made the following recipe I made up:
6 oz olive oil
4 oz cocoa butter
3 oz mango butter
2 oz coconut oil
1 oz apricot oil
.5 oz castor oil
7.3 oz water and 2.9 oz lye
The soap cooked pretty well although it took a long time to "trace". This is normal with olive oil soap. I added some yellow ochre colorant to the entire batch (no fancy swirls, just trying to use the correct amount) and then added some new scent. In the past, I have only used natural essential oils (oils derived exclusively from plants). Today, I used a fragrance oil that is supposed to be for men but I love it! It consists of vanilla, tobacco, clove and cinnamon. Yummy!
